Rock Remediation Technicians From Janod are Called in by Maui DOT Following Earthquake


Honoapilani Highway, Maui The Rock Remediation Technicians were called to task by the Maui, DOT following the 6.7 magnitude earthquake that hit Hawaii on October 15th, 2006. The earthquake caused unstable rock conditions along the Honoapiliani Highway. Following the earthquake a consulting firm was called out to evaluate the conditions of the rock slopes along the Honoapiliani Highway. Earth Tech was given the task of evaluating the damage and producing a report. Following the evaluation from Earth Tech, the FHWA and Janod were called in to discuss remediation methods, scheduling, and preliminary cost for the remediation work. Following negotiations with the Ferdinand Cajigal of the Maui DOT, preliminary work started on December 12, 2006 and is scheduled to be complete before March 31, 2007. The work will consist of both a day shift and night shift. Most of the work will be performed at night to minimize the effects to the travelling public. The scaling operation will also be performed using ring nets to control and contain the falling material and maintain traffic. Supporting Janod in their efforts are Goodfellow Bros., Inc., supplying heavy equipment and Roadway Solutions, supplying traffic control. Every effort is being made to complete the job on time and on schedule.
